Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Monday signed legislation raising the state’s minimum wage to $10.10 an hour on Jan. 1, 2020.
If the bill is not subject to a referendum, minimum wage workers will see a $1.50 increase in the coming year. The bill passed both chambers of the General Assembly earlier this month, with no amendments.
“Maryland’s minimum wage is the highest in the country, so it’s vital to allowing families and workers to make the choice to live, work and raise a family in Maryland,” Hogan said in a statement Monday. “I support fair pay for families and our workers, and a higher minimum wage will give them a better quality of life.”
Maryland, like all states, is subject to a 45-day period for legislation to take effect.
